Hey there people!
So a couple of months ago I found out there was actually a Short Circuit game for the Amstrad (and I think there is another version – Commodore 64? Haven’t looked into that one yet though).
Either way I can tell you how to get the Amstrad version on your computer to play. Or at least I’ll try to explain the best I can.
If I find out where to get the Commodore version I’ll be sure to post that too. Or if you know you could always point it out.
The first link is for the game. It won’t matter which link you click first. tacgr.emuunlim.com/downloads/f…
Click the short circuit hyperlink next to the ‘graphic adventure game’ (in the NVG Downloads table which is right under the image.
You will get a zip file.
Note: I did try downloading the file a few hours ago just to check the link still works and it did, after a few attempts.
That was for the game, now you need to get the emulator to play it on:www.sean.co.uk/books/amstrad/e…
Download the winape file. There’s a small tutorial on the same page.
Follow that tutorial and you’re pretty much set to go.
If you have any trouble getting it to work I’ll try to help solve your problem.
I’m no expert with computers, but I have managed to get the emulator and game to work so I guess that’s a start of sorts.
(Just in case)A few notes:
Once you get Amstrad Basic to work (the blue screen) then there’s two commands you can use, as said in the second link. cat
– brings up information about the ‘disk’ you’ve inserted into the emulator, such as the name run”
– you also need to have a space and then the name of the disk. On my computer it’s to get the game to play:
However, point to make is that the emulator simulates an Amstrad computer, and so annoyingly enough not all the keys on your computer will work (at least on mine it doesn’t).
To get the “ symbol you need to press the shift key on the left. I’m guessing this is because Amstrads only had one shift key.
If you’re playing with head/earphones I’d turn it down at the beginning just in case there’s a horrible loud noise when loading things up. controls
Once you get the game running you’ll notice that the arrow keys won’t work. Instead,
o is left
p is right
1 is up
3 is down
Spacebar lets you cycle through the tasks No.5 can perform
Enter – No.5 will perform task specified
I’ll let you figure the rest out, but if you have any questions just ask.
